Do you know sometimes it takes some small educated steps to start a healthy routine? As a dental practitioner, I have seen countless people who were suffering from gum disease, plaque accumulation and other problems due to a lack of proper knowledge about their oral health and products. I will, of course, recommend everyone to visit their dentist regularly but given the circumstances, we are going through right now, (hello, Covid-19!), there are some easy steps and effective products you can use to keep a healthy dental routine. Today I am going to talk about how to practice a healthy dental routine at home.

How to Practice Healthy Dental Routine at Home:

Start from within:

Diet plays a huge role not only in our overall health but also on dental/oral health. In fact, when your nutrition is poor, the first signs often show up in your mouth. Calcium and Phosphorus- rich foods help promote strong teeth. Foods with Vitamin C promote healthy gum. Sugary treats such as hard or sticky candy like lollipops, mints, taffy and caramel, sweets like cookies, cakes and muffins, and snack foods like chips are not good for dental health. Even if you do snack on them, try to brush your teeth after eating these.

Choose a Good Tooth Brush:

I have found that extremely hard and super-soft – both kinds of toothbrushes just cause torment to my dental health. When I use a hard brush, the gum often bleeds due to rough abrasion, and when I use something very soft, it doesn’t clean up the teeth. This is why I will encourage you to find something that is not too hard, not too soft. With a gentle yet firm pressure use circular motion to clean up the tooth surface. Brushing regularly twice a day can give you optimal results if you use it along with flossing.

Choose Fluoride Toothpaste:

Forgo the whitening properties and flavors, pick a toothpaste that has fluoride. This helps to create a defense against tooth decay by fighting germs that can lead to decay, as well as providing a protective barrier for your teeth.

Finish off with Mouthwash:

Mouthwash is something you will feel like you do not need until you try it. I have been trying out LISTERINE® Gum Therapy Antiseptic Mouthwash for some time and found a huge improvement to my dental health. Using a mouthwash after brushing the teeth promotes gum health, freshens breath and also keeps it fresh for a long time!

LISTERINE® Gum Therapy Antiseptic Mouthwash is ADA accepted and formulated with anti-plaque & anti-gingivitis essential oils. It can lead to 4x healthier gums in 3 weeks than brushing alone, helps reverse signs of early gum disease such as red, bleeding, and inflamed gums and also cleans below the gum line where brushing can’t reach (and flossing too hard can cause irritation).

The jar is a 1L container so I believe it will last my family a good amount of time. My husband’s gum is sensitive and sometimes it bleeds. After regularly using it, the situation has improved remarkably.

You can find this product at Walmart. As my family and I are practicing safe social distancing as much as possible, I placed the order online and found that it was very easy. Just go to walmart.com or Walmart app (if you are on phone), search for LISTERINE® Gum Therapy Antiseptic Mouthwash and it will come up instantly. Place your order and get it delivered or pick it up at your convenience.

  • If you have the tendency of grinding your teeth while sleeping, talk to your dentist as soon as possible. It’s wiser to consult the dentist as early as possible to limit the damage.
