Healthy skin by 10 regular habits

by Wasifa Ahmad Hasan

[There are probably thousands of articles about skin care over the internet, magazines etc. This article is based on my personal experience and encounter with acne.]
Skin is the largest organ in a human body. The beauty of skin is not defined by its color…rather by its healthiness.
There’s very few people (not including the celebrities who splurge $$$$ on skin care) who can take pride on their skin. They can wake up in the morning and do not have to bother camouflaging…err…prettifying with makeup.
Oh….. it sounds so good!
A blemish on the skin is simply annoying and it may be a sign of internal health problems. So if you are suffering from persisting skin problems, please see a dermatologist.
Some skin problems, like pimples, early signs of aging, dryness; can be prevented and cured by everyday healthy habits.  I had relatively problem free skin (apart from a few break outs) before last December. But from the late December, my skin started to get really sensitive and it broke out like crazy. It was not only frustrating but also the area of the break outs was hurting and I was really embarrassed by the red angry spots all over my face!
Break-out makes me wanna cry out!

So I decided to try some basic at-home remedies and followed some healthy diet. Gradually my skin is clearing up and the break out episodes have stopped.
Today I am going to share those tips with you.

1. DRINK WATER-

It’s a no brainer. But still we do not intake enough water. Water flushes away the toxins from our body and clears it up. Drink 8-9 glasses of water every day.

2.WASH YOUR FACE-

….in the morning and especially at night. If you are suffering with acne, use a mild face wash with salicylic acid.

3. EXFOLIATE-

I will not recommend to exfoliate regularly. Do it gently once or twice a week with mild exfoliating face wash or warm cotton wash cloth. I use a home-made cinnamon scrub for exfoliating. Click here for the recipe.

4. USE A MOISTURIZER-

….even if you have oily skin. Look for the key words like “water based”, “oil free”, “alcohol free”, “non-comedogenic” in your skin care products. Non comedogenic means it won’t clog your pores.

Clogged pores = trapped oil + dirt + bacteria = ACNE!!

5. WEAR SUNSCREEN-

Repeat after me- “I should always wear sunscreen even if it is a rainy or snowy day.” Trust me, your skin will thank you when you are older. Check this article to know which one I use.

6. DO (AT HOME) FACIAL-

If you don’t have major bucks to spend on a spa facial, do an at-home one once a week. Here is how you can do at home facials.

7. AVOID FRIED & SALTY FOOD-

I LOVE french fries but the oil in those fries made my skin irritated. So I have taken the fact into consideration that even if I really R-E-A-L-L-Y want to eat french fries, I will eat with moderation. J

8. EAT MORE VEGGIES & FRUIT-

Beauty comes from within. So eat (or drink) those veggies and fruits. Make smoothies or yummy juice and take it! Check this out to know which food are good for your body!

9. MAINTAINING HYGIENE

Change your pillow cover and clean your face towel weekly.

10. LIFESTYLE MODERATION

Exercise, Stop stressing and Take enough rest.

11. BONUS TIP

Hey Reeju! I know what you mean, I face the same trouble every month.
The best thing you can do is not touching the acne. Yes I know it's quite hard…but just leave it be. After the pimple is gone, you can use a mixture of lemon and potato juice to lighten the spots, it helps. But takes time. Also do use a good sunscreen if you use any lightening product.

    Hey.. Thanks for the post.
However, my concern is not the acne itself because no matter how hard I try I will get 2-3 before my periods but my concern is the aftermath. Because my skin suffers from hyper pigmentation and the marks is really dark and won't go away at all.

Can u please advice anything for that or something that can prevent the dark marks from Acne.

    Thanks once again
