Your smile is one of the first things that people notice in you. It helps in creating a great first impression and is also responsible for retaining the functionality of the mouth. Naturally, if you are unable to achieve the smile of your dreams, it is imperative that you lose a lot of confidence.

It is for this reason that you must take care of your oral health.  Just the taking care of your gums and teeth through the brushing and flossing is not enough. And getting the right medications at the time of the need is also not a viable option every time. So here are some of the home remedies that will assist in maintaining your oral health.

7 Home Remedies for Oral Health:

Water Rinse with Salt –

The salt comes with the antiseptic and the anti-inflammatory properties. This helps in reducing the swelling and combatting the infections that lead to the bleeding of the gums. For this, you need salt and warm water mixed together. After that, your mouth has to be rinsed with this solution. Go for using this at least twice or thrice daily.

Ice Pack or Cold Compress –

An ice pack or a cold compress can ease any type of dental pain to a great extent. This is especially the case if the toothache is due to swollen gums or injury.  A person can try holding the pack of ice or a frozen pea bag. You can hold this against the painful teeth over the cheek for a few minutes at a time. The blood vessels get constricted by the application of cold treatment which slows the blood flow to the affected area. This assists in numbing the pain and reducing the inflammation and swelling.

Lemongrass Oil

Research suggests that lemongrass essential oil is quite effective for reducing plaque and gum disease.  For using the lemongrass mouthwash, you have to dilute 2-3 drops of lemongrass oil in a cup of water. For up to 30 seconds you should swish the solution in the mouth. Then you have to spit it out. You should repeat it 2-3 times per day. It is generally safe to use lemongrass oil. But you should understand that the lemongrass essential oil is also quite strong. So curb further irritation by opting for a cold treatment that constricts the blood vessels.
