Kid-friendly Skin Products Moms Can Also Use

by Wasifa Ahmad Hasan

Since I started my motherhood journey 7 years ago, I have been quite diligent about what I am putting on my skin. Especially in the first 2 years when the baby is almost inseparable, whatever miraculous skin care products we are putting on our skin, will definitely transfer to your baby’s skin. This is why for the past 7 years I have used many kid-friendly skin care products, put them on the test, and figured out which products moms can also use.

Before we start the list, let me tell you about my daughter’s skin type. She always had sensitive skin on the drier side. During winter she will most certainly develop dry patches and I have to be diligent about it. Any bug bite will cause severe redness, blisters, and inflammation on her skin. Though it’s under control nowadays, I still keep an eye out for the early signs i.e. itchiness, rash, redness.

Without any particular order, here are the top kid-friendly skin products we can also use:

Earth Baby Moisturizing Lotion:

All of the Earth Baby products are non-toxic, gentle, and effective on all skin types, even safe enough for a baby’s sensitive skin, hair, and body. I love this lotion for my daughter’s skin because it leaves her dry skin moisturized without feeling greasy, takes away the itchiness and I do not have to reapply it throughout the day.

They have bubble bath, shampoo, and conditioner gentle yet effective enough for the baby. The products are affordable and you can find them here.

Burts Bees Nourishing Baby Oil:

This one is a gem! You can use it for hair or skin. It leaves my child’s skin soft and supple and whenever I am giving her a message, I am left with softer hands. It smells delightful, and though it’s an oil. it never makes the skin slippery or greasy.

You can find it online here.

Aveeno Baby Moisturizer and Baby Wash:

Once I forgot to take my face wash while traveling and I used Aveeno baby wash instead. It worked well (took me 2 washes to clean off all the sunscreen and makeup) and it didn’t leave skin too dry. The moisturizer and wash formula is gentle enough to use on sensitive baby skin. The moisturizer is better for warmer summer days or if your skin is on the oily side.

We buy it online here.

Baby Dove Moisturizer and Wash:

Another wash and moisturizer combo I love for my kid. Both of these mild beautiful “baby” smell and I used to use the moisturizer on my skin when my daughter was younger.

You can get it online here.

Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel :

This is what you should try out at least once. The oil gel comes in a variety of fragrances and I have tried them all. During North Dakota’s harsh winter after I use a regular moisturizer or oil on my kid’s skin I use a little bit of this oil gel on top. It seals the moisture and does not let her skin dry out.

As for myself, I use it as a hand moisturizer. My hands and cuticles get dry whether it’s summer or winter. I use a little bit of the product and massage it. It makes the skin softer and takes away the excessive dryness.

I always keep one oil gel at home and never let the supply run out. You can get it online here.

Vaseline 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly:

This is a multipurpose product and is needed in every household for every season. You can use it on cracked hands, feet, chapped lips, before changing the baby’s diaper and the on their knees when they start to crawl and the knees get rough.

You can buy it online here.
