Happy National Lipstick Day! To honor this day, I am going to review and swatch the newly released Becca Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balm. It has 8 shades, and all of these shades will be swatched on my brown skin without any additional product and filters. So without further ado, keep scrolling below and enjoy the review.
Becca Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balm:

As the name implies, it’s a plumping and smoothing lip balm that moisturizes lips and gives color. It has 8 shades from pink to red to neutral and includes a transparent one. The color is buildable and as the color payoff can be light to medium coverage, the colors can look with any skin color. But as my skin tone is warm, the cool-toned colors were not the best match for me.
Key Ingredients: The formula has hyaluronic acid which attracts and locks in moisture, Plumping Peptides which plumps lips without exaggerating the lip lines (you know, the way liquid lipsticks do?). It also has mango butter and jojoba seed oil that nourishes dry lips. The product is also cruelty-free, gluten-free, vegan, and paraben-free. According to the brand website, it is formulated without- Animal By-Product, Parabens, Alcohol, Sulfates, Mineral Oil, Phthalates, Triclosan, Triclocarban, Polyethylene Glycol.
Packaging: All of the lip balms come in sleek white magnetic containers with Becca’s silver logo. I loved how neat and aesthetically pleasing it is to look at. But without opening the cap or reading the names, you will not know which shade you are going to take in your bag. So if you are in a hurry keep your go-to colors ready beforehand.
Price and Availability: The lip balm retails for $19 each and you can find them at Becca website and Ulta.com . Scroll down below for color breakdown and swatches.
Word of Caution: The formula makes it susceptible to melt and break if you put it under the hot sun. So use a thermal makeup bag like this one from WELLinsulated. It will keep your makeup, especially lip products from melting.
Becca Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balm- Swatches:
As the product is a lip balm and very glossy- it takes a couple of swatches to get a beautiful coverage. I felt like my studio light was washing out the colors and somehow it couldn’t capture the rich glossiness of this product, which is why I took the photos under the sun- without any face makeup or base underneath.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balm colors:
- MIST: transparent baby blue
- SURGE: warm bright coral
- DEW: cool-toned light plum
- TIDE: light nude pink with slight warm tone.
- BREEZE: medium-deep plum
- SPRAY: pink fuchsia
- SWELL: cool light pink
- LAGOON: bright medium red
In a Nutshell- Becca Hydra-Light Plumping Lip Balm is…..
…..a great lip product! Don’t think of it like a traditional lipstick or a lip gloss. It’s not sticky, glides on smoothly, provides moisture and color. Did I mention sleek and trendy packaging? Of course, I did! Overall, it’s a great lip product that will also give you some color. Great for travel and for those who love minimal makeup. Thumbs up!
