January Color Spotlight- MARSALA

COLOR SPOTLIGHT is a new series on Sifa’s Corner. Every month I will show 10 or more products featuring one specific color or in the same color family. The color I chose for January is MARSALA.

Everyone in the beauty and fashion world is getting crazy over the color of the year 2015 AKA Marsala. As I was frantically searching my local Sephora store and waiting them to restock the Marsala-color-family makeup products on their website, I had an EUREKA moment. Why don’t I browse my own collection and look for similar colored products?

So here I am, sitting here in my beauty room and browsing for products in Marsala color family. As interesting as the name sounds, the color itself is also quite fascinating. It’s a tasteful mix of brown, red and a slight hint of plum. To represent it visually, think of Pomegranate.

Now that you have a visual clue of what I am talking about, we can move forwards.

WHAT IS PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR:

As I was searching the stores for products of this color, my husband asked me, “What is pantone and why do they get to chose the color of the year?!”

That’s a very good question and I didn’t have the proper answer to satisfy his curious mind then.

“Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries. The PANTONE® name is known worldwide as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer. This innovative system was created for identifying, matching and communicating colors to solve the problems associated with producing accurate color matches in the graphic arts community.

Through the Pantone Color Institute, Pantone continues to study how color influences human thought processes, emotions and physical reactions, furthering its commitment to providing professionals with a greater understanding of color and to help them utilize color more effectively.”

To simplify it, Pantone is THE global color authority who identify each and every color known and unknown to mankind.

WHY I CHOSE THIS COLOR:

……because January is the starting of a new year and everyone starts a year with hope, dreams, plans and good will. Marsala is the color which enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. We all need the warmth and richness to start a new chapter of our lives, hence Marsala.

FEATURED PRODUCTS:

I have chosen 15 products of this color, or similar to this color family. The products are from both drugstore and high-end brands.

Let’s have a closer look at these babies, shall we?

LIP COLORS:

I picked 4 lipsticks and 1 lip gloss. The lipsticks are:

1. L’Oreal Infallible lipstick in 741

2. Tory Burch lipstick in Tomboy

3. Revlon Moisturestay lipstick in Violet.

4. The shown color from CHAOS Lipsticks.

(Unfortunately their lipsticks do not have any names yet. All the lipsticks come in a packet.)

And the lipgloss is:

5. NARS lipgloss in Corsica.

Lipsticks…don’t you just love their rich colors?

Here are the swatches. The colors are not all bold, some of these can be worn everyday!

CHEEK:

First of all, it’s really hard to find the rusty rich red color of Marsala as cheek color. But still I tried to stay true to the color family.

Here are my picks for blushes:

1. Shiseido Satin Face Color in RD 103

2. Kevyn Aucoin Powder Glow in Neolita

3. Becca Mineral Blush in Flowerchild

The colors are really pretty, no?

EYE:

It was easy to choose eyeshadows in this color. There are many kinds of shadows with different finishes in Marsala color family. I am showing here 3 individual powder eyeshadows, 2 powder shadows from 1 palette, 1 cream shadow and 2 pigments.

The powder shadows are:

1. MAC- Cranberry

2. Makeup Geek (MUG)- Bitten

3. MUG- Country Girl

The cream shadow is:

4. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pomegranate Pink (Review here)

The pigments are:

5. MAC pigment in Heritage Rouge

6. MUG pigment in Enchanted

The palette is:

7. Charlotte Tilbury palette in Vintage Vamp. (I have marked the shadows.)

Swatches are here. The colors are to die for!

…..and the pigments. I can’t say enough about the pigments. I love both!

Enchanted is a milder version of Marsala, whereas Heritage Rouge is the deeper version!

I hope my picks for this article will help you find something similar to Marsala. Stay healthy and happy till my next post!
