My Custom Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette

Hello my lovely reader! Hope you are having a healthy & good week so far (If not, don’t lose hope! Good days are coming!)

Recently I went a little crazy and hauled some Anastasia Beverly Hills products. This was before the eyeshadow launch, so I missed those babies.

Anyway, today I am going to talk about the custom contour palette I have arranged. My skin tone is NC35-40 in MAC reference. The colors I have picked may or may not suit your skin tone or contour choices. Most of these colors are warm and darker than my skin. I am planning to buy some more shades in future and make more custom palettes. But for now I have picked these 6 colors. Bear with me! I am gonna explain why I have chosen these colors.

PACKAGING:

A little bit about the packaging, all Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes are made of the same material and have the same logo. The palette itself is lightweight, sleek and minimal. Great thing about a custom palettes is that, you can mix and match the shades according to your convenience.

The refill pan shades come in a small envelope kind of packet. Within this packet the pan itself is protected by a plastic case.

HOW TO ORGANIZE:

You just open the plastic packet, take out the pan and place it in the slot within the palette. The palette is magnetic so the pans adhere well to the palette. It’s easier to take out too! You just have to take something pointy (like a nail file) and give a little tug under the pan (near the small opening) at the side of the pan slots.

SHADES I HAVE PICKED:

I picked 3 Light and 3 dark colors. The lighter colors are:

Champagne

Mellow Yellow

Banana

The darker colors are:

Clay

Espresso

Carob

You must be wondering why the yellow and why the heck I chose carob (which is clearly way too dark for my skin tone). Let me me get into that.

CHAMPAGNE:

As the name implies, it’s a shimmery cream color which is intended to use as a highlighter. This color can look a little silvery sometimes, so sometimes I like to mix it with Mellow Yellow shade.

Champagne- Swatched & Blended

MELLOW YELLOW:

This is a yellow contour powder…..which is a lifesaver for those who have a little (or a lot of) yellow tone in their skin.

My skin is warm and has a yellow color in it. I have found that I can use this color to blend with my bronzer or contour or undereye setting powder to match my skin tone. I can also use it to lighten the darkest contour shades to match my skin.

Mellow Yellow- Swatched & Blended

Here is an example. I have taken CAROB, the darkest color in this palette and mixed it with Mellow Yellow. You can see how it lightens up and changes the undertone.

BANANA:

I have seen many people asking if Banana shade is similar to the famous Banana Powder by Ben Nye. To see the comparison of these 2 powders side by side see my article here.

ABH Banana is a matte bone colored shade which works great as a undereye setting powder or a matte highlighter for your brow bones.

CLAY:

This is a warm toned contour color.

ESPRESSO:

Espresso is darker than Clay. It’s works great as a bronzer for my NC 35-40 skin.

Espresso- Swatched & Blended

CAROB:

This is darkest color in the palette. But don’t be afraid of the darkness. You can take a little amount to use this as a contour color.

PROS:

1. The pans are good sized.

2. The product is not chalky or powdery at all. The powders blend like butter and you can build up the color intensity.

3. The powders are super blendable and can be mixed together.

4. The only one shimmery shade Champagne is not sparkly or glittery. The shimmers in this shade is very fine and it looks really flattering as a highlighter.

5. Staying power of the powders are good. Without a cream base it stays on my skin for 7+ hours and with a cream base it stays on for 10+ hours.

6. Don’t be fooled by the name “contour” or “highlighter” powder. These work remarkably well as eyeshadows.

7. The main plus point of a custom palette- you can CUSTOMIZE it in any way you want. You can make it an all brown eyeshadow palette if you want!

8. The palette is good for travel.

9. When you want to order the customized palette from the Anastasia Beverly Hills website, it’s set in a way that helps you to choose the shades according to your undertone, skin type etc.

10. The site offers 27 shades, so there’s a shade for everyone.

CONS:

Seeing the above list you must be thinking, “Is there no flaw in this palette?” Technically no. But I am a beauty blogger and I must point out everything- good, bad and blah!

The only con I have found is the Price. It retails for $40, which is an issue for many.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY:

The customized palette retails for $40. You choose the 6 pans and the palette comes “free”. The customized palette can be found on Anastasia Beverly Hills website.

IN A NUTSHELL:

This is a great palette for both personal and professional use. Two thumbs up!
