I started coloring my hair almost 16 years ago. I have tried box dye, bleach, professional color- anything you can think of. Nowadays I only highlight my hair… I love how it looks and feels. Generally, I ask my hairstylist to add a lot of highlights to blend the natural grays better. I stopped coloring my roots 2 years back as my grays started to come out more and more every day. I wanted to accentuate them, not hide.
Adding highlights (aka bleaching hair) takes a toll on your hair and scalp health no matter how carefully it’s done. This is why it’s necessary to use products specifically made for colored or damaged hair. It includes color-safe shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, treatment oil, and something that specifically targets the scalp. I already use color-safe shampoo & conditioner, but I always look for hair treatments to nourish the hair and scalp. After doing some research, I came to learn about bonding oil or hair repair oil. These are not your typical coconut or olive or argan oil, rather a special blend of oils and nutrients to optimize scalp health and improve hair vitality.
There are many bonding or treatment hair oils in the market. I went to the affordable route and started using Scalp Relief Treatment & Bonding Hair Repair Oil from my trusted brand Derma E. After using them over and over, today I am ready to share my review with you all, keep on reading.
Derma E Scalp Relief Treatment:
I do not have that trouble with dandruff, but occasionally when there is product build-up or I am visiting anywhere hot & humid, my scalp develops dandruff and/or itchiness. In those times, Derma E Scalp Relief Treatment comes handy. Think of it as a face serum- lightweight, comes in a glass bottle with a dropper and you will need to add a couple of drops to your scalp and massage it.
The product is formulated with:
Tea Tree Oil: This essential oil works to cleanse the scalp while improving scalp health.
Sea Kelp Extract: Rich in vitamins, this moisturizing algae helps to promote a healthier scalp and stronger hair.
Blue Algae: Works to moisturize.
Amla Oil: This nutrient-rich moisturizing oil helps to promote hair thickness and health.
The menthol-y serum provides instant relief and a soothing sensation to the scalp. I find it’s better to use it a couple of drops at a time and not overdo it. I add 2 drops to one area, massage it and then move to the next area. After I have covered the whole scalp, I will gently brush my hair and make braids of ponytails. Generally, I do it the day before I am doing a full hair wash routine (shampoo, deep condition, hairstyle).
It retails for $13.95 and can be found online here.
In a nutshell:
For my occasional itchiness and discomfort, this scalp relief treatment works well. I like to use it 2-3 times a month to keep the scalp healthy.
Derma E Styling Hair Repair Oil:
(previously known as Bonding Hair Repair Oil) This lightweight and lightly smelling oil come in a small glass jar. Don’t let the 1 fl oz jar fool you! I just need 1-2 drops for my shoulder-length hair. I have been using it for almost 5 months and I am nowhere near the middle. I use it as a finishing oil when my hair is damp or a styling oil when my hair is dry.
As the oil is lightweight it’s very easy to overdo with the product. The first few times I used it as a normal oil and it made my hair greasy and flat (plus softer), after that, I am cautious about how much I take. 1-2 drops are enough.
It feels silky when you touch it, but not silicone-y. If you use silicone hair serum you will know what I mean. It also gives a healthy shine to the hair.
This oil is formulated with:
Chaga Mushroom: Helps to support healthy hair and scalp
Jojoba Oil: Moisturizes hair while working to prevent split ends, dryness, and breakage
Amla and Mongongo Oils: These nutrient-rich moisturizing oils help to promote hair thickness and support hair growth

My friend Priyanka from Feel Pretty with Pri also loves this oil. Here’s what she has to say about it:
I love that this oil from Derma E is formulated with great ingredients that support hair health like Amla, Mongongo, and Jojoba oils. It leaves my color-treated hair with a healthy shine and strengthens it without weighing it down.
It generally retails for $11.95 but if you get it from iHerb you will get it for $8.53.
In a nutshell:
From the price point and the efficiency, I love this oil! I have seen people comparing this oil with Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil, but as I have not used Olaplex oil, I can’t comment on that. Do you want me to review the Olaplex oil? Let me know.
Have you used Derma E Scalp Relief Treatment or Hair Repair Oil? How was your experience?
