REVIEW: Christian Louboutin Python Vulcano Nail Colour Collection

by Wasifa Ahmad Hasan

Christian Louboutin is a famous name in footwear industry. But recently they have stepped into nail sector. They have launched really pricey, but drool-worthy nail products. I attended their initial nail lacquer launch on Seattle Nordstrom and posted my thoughts about it last year. You can see it here.

As pricey as the nail products are, the lucrative packaging and product itself is a dream for beauty bloggers and nail addicts. I have recently got their “Python Vulcano Nail Colour Collection”  for Spring 2015 and today I am going to share my thoughts about this collection.

WHAT IS IT:

It’s a limited-edition miniature set of 3 Christian Louboutin nail lacquers enclosed in a decorative box.

WHAT THE COMPANY CLAIMS:

According to Sephora,

Inspired by Jackson Pollock’s drip-techniques paintings, Christian Louboutin’s Spring 2015 Python Vulcano collection mirrors the brilliant effect of projected colors, resulting in emphasizing the scaled effect of the python surface. This trio of three highly pigmented, rich formulas are influenced by the colors in this collection, each one presenting itself as a beautiful art object worthy of displaying on any vanity.

Formulated with the finest ingredients, these polishes are long-wearing and chip resistant. The cap design is perfectly weighted, allowing the user ultimate control, and an elegant gesture with every stroke. The custom-designed, patented triangular brush ensures precise application, and the shortened brush picks up the right amount of formula, without air bubbles, to ensure flawless coverage. Two coats create the effect of 20 coats of traditional lacquer—brush on luxe, glossy color with these shades that are perfect for spring.

PRICE & AVAILABILITY:

It retails for $90 and can be found on Sephora, Neiman MarcusBergdorf Goodman.

MY THOUGHTS:

First of all- packaging. Without any doubt Christian Louboutin nail products have the best packaging in today’s market. It’s modern, unique and stands out among the other nail products’ packaging. This specific collection comes in a beautiful yellow, blue and white colored box, the pattern of which reminds me of snake-skin.

The box has 3 separate compartments to hold the 3 mini Christian Louboutin nail colors. The 3 colors are called Salonu, True Blue and Hot Chick.

SALONU:

Though the color is described as “white cement”, it reminds me of white egg-shell or a buttery cream-white. This is  a great alternative of traditional white nail colors. White nail colors tend to make my tanned fingers not-so-pretty. But it has a slight warmth and looks actually better than a stark white nail color on our “desi” skin.

TRUE BLUE:

Described as a “periwinkle blue”, this is an opaque medium cobalt blue.

HOT CHICK:

This is a “vivid yellow” and reminds me of yellow chick we used to pet when we were little kids. When I say vivid yellow, it may remind you of in-your-face yellow, but this shade is nothing like that. It’s a medium yellow color which is very forgiving and Summery.

PROS:

1. Excellent packaging.

2. The nail colors are really pigmented & opaque and the colors are very “soothing” to the eye.

3. The product glides on smoothly.

4. If you mix the 3 colors in a nail-art, it blends beautifully and the color combos look perfect together.

5. All the colors have healthy-glossy shine.

CONS:

1. Pricey.

2. Not chip-resistant if you do not use any base coat.

3. Limited edition.

IN A NUTSHELL:

In my opinion, this set is a collector’s edition. It’s not a must-have if you are on budget, but if you are a nail-addict or a beauty enthusiast- you should try out this collection.

I agree! Sometimes I feel really guilty to wear the colors and do normal household works. The price point demands it to be worn specifically for occasional purposes.

These are pretty colors of polish. I do think the price is too much for me though.

Hey Tara! Yup, the price point is the main concern 🙁
