[Please do not try to groom your own brows if you do not
know how to do it or it’s your 1st time. I do my own, because I have
training in threading & brow shaping.]
Brows frame your whole face. So it’s really important to
keep them well groomed and in shape. If you don’t fill-in your brows when you
are doing your makeup, the flash photography will wash them out.

Lately readers have been asking me how I fill-in my eye
brows. Truth to be told my brows are very thick & dark to begin with... and
I groom my own brows, so that every time I go for brow maintenance, I don’t end
up with a new set of brows.
When I am taking pictures for a tutorial or doing makeup for
a party, all I do is fill in the sparse areas with a dark ash-brown color and
set the brows with a clear brow gel,. For daily basis, just brow gel and I'm
good to go!
If you have never filled in brows, I would suggest you to
work with a powder shadow 1st. Shadows tend to blend naturally with minimal
effort. While choosing the color, go 1-2 shade LIGHTER than your current hair
color if your current hair color is DARKER. Choose 1-2 shade DARKER if your
current hair color is LIGHTER or Blond.
If you fill-in your brows with too light or too dark color, your brows are
going to look unnatural. Never ever fill in your brows with black color because it’s not going to look
pretty at all!
You don't believe me? Well, check out the following picture and see for yourself.
Now see the following pictures. The dyed blond brows have “disappeared”
on the left picture, while in the right picture the brows are framing the eyes
& her face beautifully.
So now you have an
idea what looks good and what not, right?
Let’s get started!
| Angled brush |
WHAT WILL YOU NEED:
- Angled brow brush. I have used Sephora brow brush 10.
- Spooly brush.
- A matte eyeshadow.
- A clear brow gel.
PROCEDURE:
Here is a diagram to help & ease your brow-filling
process. The 1st part is the inner part of your brows. We are going to start from the 2nd and 3rd
part. The joint of area 2 and 3 is the arch of your brows.
1
My current hair color is dark brown-almost black and my
brows are naturally black. So I have chosen a darker brown matte shadow to fill in
my brows.
I have started with the upper and lower borders of my brows
leaving the inner part (area 1) bare. I drew the shape (area 2 & 3) first
by lining with the darker brown shadow like the following picture.
2
Then I filled in between the lines with vertical strokes.
3
Now I took a lighter brown matte shadow (lighter than the 1st
dark brown color) and filled-in the inner part (area 1). You can draw a line at
the base of area 1 like the picture and then fill upwards with short strokes.
4
I have used the
spooly brush to blend in the colors.
5
I have set the brows with the clear gel and it’s done!
NOTES:
- I have used the darker shadow on the outer part of the brow and the lighter one on the inner part, because it gives the most natural look possible. See the before-after pictures below. The whole process results in subtle yet defined brows.

| Before - After |
- If you do not have clear brow gel, just use a little amount of your normal hair gel with the spooly brush. It works just the same!
- You do not have to buy the fancy brow-kits to fill-in your brows if you are going to do it occasionally. Just use one of your eyeshadows!
